What is chiropractic?
Chiropractic is a science, art and philosophy which is concerned with the relationship between the nervous system and normal bodily functions i.e. health. Chiropractic is the most practised complementary therapy in the West with thousands of practitioners worldwide.
Chiropractic Philosophy Chiropractors consider the spine as the most important structure in the body and stress its role in protecting the nervous system. Chiropractors believe that spinal misalignment not only results in back pain but affects the entire body. Treatment focuses on joint manipulation and it's widely believed that this can also help disorders of the body’s internal organs by association with the nervous system.
What does a Chiropractor do? Doctors of Chiropractic are trained to be specialists in the detection, reduction and prevention of nervous system interference, especially where the spine is concerned. Chiropractors are highly qualified specialists and treat the spine by specific manual therapy. This means that Chiropractors do not use any form of drugs or surgery to carry out their work. Where necessary, Chiropractors will take x-rays to help them in making an accurate diagnosis prior to starting treatment.
Whom and what do Chiropractors treat? Simply, Chiropractors treat everyone. There is no age limit, whether new-born or elderly, the human spine always needs care and attention just as our eyes and teeth do, perhaps more so since we can't replace our spine! The spine is a moving part and moving parts can be prone to problems. Chiropractors are trained to detect problems before as well as after they occur so you should also see your Chiropractor preventatively and not just when things go wrong.
The types of problems most commonly seen by Chiropractors are back pain, neck pain, chronic headaches, shoulder and arm pain, leg pain, sciatica, hip pain, trapped nerves and numerous other conditions such as those associated with sports injuries.
